Mumbai witnessed a prestigious One Day National Seminar on Development of Special Alloys and Composites of Aluminium for New India on 16th of March, 2018, organised by Aluminium Association of India (AAI), the apex body of all aluminium industries in the country in association with Hindalco, with other primary metal producers, and with relevant representative companies of the downstream industry. The mission of the event was that of encouraging an increasing use of aluminium and its alloys in various application sectors and to make sincere efforts in creating awareness about the new developments in science and technology of the light metal materials and on their production technologies, physical metallurgy, semis processing, working and finishing, performance evaluation and their final applications. The key highlights of the seminar also included how aluminium alloys and aluminium alloy composites (AACs) are becoming potential engineering materials, offering an excellent combination of properties such as high specific strength, high specific stiffness, electrical and thermal conductivities, low coefficient of thermal expansion and wear resistance. In addition, the seminar also emphasised on the use of aluminium alloys and aluminium alloy composites in varieties of applications including automotive, mining and mineral, aerospace, defence and other related sectors, owing to having an excellent combination of properties. Under the direction of Additional Director General, Pratapaditya Mishra was the main organizer of the seminar. The eminent figures of the industry like Shri Arun Kumar, IAS, Secretary Ministry of Mines and Mr. A.K. Murthy, Hon. Gen. Secretary of AAI and GM of Nalco graced the seminar as the Chief Guests, along with Dr. T.K. Chand, Hon. President of AAI and CMD of Nalco who presided over the inaugural function, and Shri Satish Pai, MD of Hindalco Industries Ltd as the Guest of Honour. The inaugural function was addressed by the Guest of Honour Ms. Stefania Costanza, Honourable Consulate General of Italy, who in his opening message underlined the close relations between the Italian and Indian systems of aluminium, witnessed by the recent Indoitalian Metalhub held in Bubhaneswar last January, and successfully organized by Francesca Bruni and Alberto Cavicchiolo (Art Valley) with the participation of numerous key person of the Italian aluminium industry, that Stefania Costanza specifically wanted to remember: the President of METEF and Managing Director of the International magazine A&L, Mario Conserva; the President of Amafond Maurizio Sala, the President of Centroal Assomet Mauro Cibaldi; the Mkt Director of A&L Alberto Pomari; the Technical Director of A&L Giuseppe Giordano; the Vice-President of FACE, Fabrizio Ciampoli; Carmelo Brocato of Breda Danieli.
