Aluminium Waste Sorting in Italy Improves
CiAl acknowledges the improved performances of town administrations and aluminium packaging collection operators with the 2017 Yield Pirze

The National Consortium for the Recovery and Recycling of Aluminium (CiAl), having seen the results of the separate collection of aluminium packaging in Italy, prepared a special ranking list which singles out at national level the towns and companies in charge of the management of urban waste materials showing the best quantitative and qualitative performances in terms of separate collection of aluminium packaging. Based on this ranking list, CiAl awarded the so-called “Yield Prize”, an economic incentive to encourage intensive models of waste sorting, capable of fully exploiting the potential of the single territorial areas.
“Separate collection of aluminium packaging is steadily growing all over the country”, Gino Schiona, CiAl’s General Director, stated, “both in quantitative and qualitative terms, and for this reason last October, following a particularly satisfactory trend regarding the quality of material conferred to the consortium, which reached a pureness level of over 96%, we decided to carry out a revision of the economic value of this “Prize”, increasing it by 20% as from this year”.
In 2017, the Yield Prize will distribute an overall incentive of about 372,000 euro which must be added to the sum already determined by the Anci-Conai Framework Agreement.
Recipients will be 64 subjects, town administrations and collection companies, who stood out in terms of the results obtained. 53% of incentives will go to operators in Northern Italy, 37% to recipients in Southern Italy and 10% to towns in Central Italy. 2,182 Italian towns fall within the management of companies or territories which have been awarded prizes by the Consortium. CiAl’s Yield Prize shows how widespread and well-organized the separate collection of aluminium is in Italy; today there are 6,741 Italian towns where this service is active (84% of the whole) and roughly 53.4 million inhabitants (88% of the Italian population) are involved. This is an important indication which shows the validity of the management system underlying the Anci-Conai Framework Agreement to ensure the growth and consolidation of the waste collection and treatment services with growing results and performances and aligned with European standards.
