Renewed design for linear actuators
Following other products, Rollon’s SC range has been also revamped in terms of aesthetics and functionality in the direction of the designer’s needs in order to simplify the project, increase performance and adhere to the various application requirements.
The redesign process started with the new ELM and ROBOT Series of the PLUS SYSTEM family in June 2020 is completed with the introduction of the new vertical models of the SC Series from Rollon. SC Series linear units are specifically designed for vertical movement and have a fixed carriage and movable profile, thanks to an omega belt drive system. They can be quickly and easily assembled with ROBOT Series axes to create multi-axis or gantry configurations without the use of additional adapter plates. The axes of the SC Series can be used in many automated processes in different industrial sectors, such as logistics, machine tool automation, palletizing or end-of-line packaging. They are available in three different sections: 100, 130 and 160 mm.
A functional redesign with lightness and sturdiness combined
The connection plate at the end of the profile allows for quick and easy switching of accessories, reducing downtime and improving plant productivity. The modularity of the system is now further improved, thanks to the introduction of a special extension system (available as an optional) useful to reach lengths exceeding the maximum stroke. The accessory extension (lengths between 60 and 1,000 mm) is quick and easy to assemble and centre precisely on the connecting plate, thanks to the use of self-centring keys. The new SC Series also features a new driving head, lighter than its predecessor, with a hollow-shaft pulley that makes it easier for the customer to mount the gearbox. Finally, the new option to integrate additional pneumatic braking systems allows for a higher level of safety of the application. The anodized aluminium extrusions used for the profile of the Rollon’s SC Series linear units have been designed and manufactured to achieve two fundamental objectives: to reduce the weights to be moved (in order to obtain better performance in terms of energy consumption) and to offer a high mechanical resistance to loads at the same time. Inside the profile itself is the routing of the power cables of the gripping device, a feature that greatly reduces the overall dimensions of the installation.
Belt drive: more dynamic, less maintenance
Rollon’s SC Series linear units use steel-reinforced polyurethane drive belts with AT pitch. This belt provides high load transmission characteristics, high dynamics and low noise. The belt drive also reduces maintenance requirements. Lubrication on the SC Series is reduced to 1 operation per 5,000 km and is carried out with vegetable oils to allow the use of the actuator even in highly sensitive applications, such as those found in the food and pharmaceutical industries, where it is crucial to preserve the product from contamination. All linear units in the Plus System family, of which the SCs are a part, are available in a corrosion-resistant version that houses bearings, linear rails, hardware, and components made of low-carbon AISI 303 and 404C stainless steel. The combination of aluminium profile and stainless-steel elements makes SC actuators perfect for applications in harsh environments and/or subject to frequent cleaning.
