Tailor-made Linear Guides Guarantee Production Excellence
FPT Industrie has chosen Bosch Rexroth linear guides for its flagship Dinowide model: this mobile gantry milling machine is capable of certifying the measurements of machined parts. On a machine of such imposing dimensions (length = 12,000 mm), the challenge was to find very large guides and runner blocks suitable for the requirements. The availability of parts in stock and their serviceability was also crucial.
Founded in 1969 in the province of Venice, FPT Industrie is recognised as one of the world’s most important groups in the machine tool sector. Research and innovation in patents and services are the two cornerstones that have guided the company’s growth, basing its success on the continuous production and implementation of innovative ideas capable of optimising its processes, services and products. With strong local expertise, a 100% Italian soul and more than 20 different product lines in various market sectors, FPT is now a real point of reference – both at home and abroad – when it comes to the production of CNC boring and milling machines for the mechanical, aeronautical, energy and printing sectors. A source of pride for the company is the short supply chain that the product is developed in: the company acts as the first user of the machine, so the customer has full visibility of the finished and working product, as well as being able to count on complete production cycle monitoring.
Dinowide, the customer-oriented flagship product
FPT Industrie and Bosch Rexroth have been working together for a long time: their collaboration began with hydraulics in the 1990s and has since grown into a fruitful partnership. Dinowide is the latest, impressive machine developed by FPT to meet its customers’ needs: it can be personalised with a wide range of solutions, enabling it to meet the most specific usage requests in the component sectors of the energy industry and in mechanical machining operations where high levels of power and precision are required. It’s a mobile gantry machine with excellent overall rigidity, offering unique solutions. Dinowide is a very special, patented system with cutting edge features: in addition to milling operations, it can also make geometric checks thanks to an innovative built-in system that measures the position of the working axes in real time, independently of structural and/or flexural deformations (Extracal system). It’s the first milling machine capable of certifying the measurements of machined parts with the same accuracy as a three-dimensional machine, saving on the time and cost involved in moving workpieces, especially large ones. The solution adopted by FPT for the movement of the axes on the Dinowide gantry is unique; the alternatives available on the market, with these dimensions, are all hydrostatic machines with limitations due to a low degree of dynamics and possible machine downtime because of the maintenance required by this type of system. FPT Industrie has chosen Bosch Rexroth linear guides for its Dinowide. On a machine of such imposing dimensions (length 12,000, transverse 5,300, combined vertical 5,000), the challenge was to find very large guides and runner blocks suitable for the requirements. The availability of parts in stock and their serviceability was also crucial.
Custom-made linear guides meet precision requirements
“Bosch Rexroth’s expertise, reliability and credibility led us to choose its linear guides for this important product line” says Gianprimo Squizzato, Director of Sales Engineering at FPT Industrie. “We faced the challenge of finding an innovative solution for a gantry machine with a mobile crossbar that was first and foremost reliable, precise, dynamic and could develop power and torque characteristics of up to 100 kW and 11,000 Nm respectively. With such an imposing machine, it was essential to be able to rely on a competent partner that could guarantee adequate technical support, availability of parts and top quality, thanks to best-in-class solutions and production continuity, avoiding any potential inefficiencies”. We’ve been working with FPT for years. We share the same values related to innovation and the level of service and personalization offered to customers. We got on board the Dinowide project, aware of the difficulties imposed by a machine with specific requirements in terms of precise movements: the balance of forces and many other complex factors come into play here. We’re pleased to be able to respond with our tailor-made linear guides and to guarantee production excellence” emphasises Giovanni Toffano, Sales Engineer at Bosch Rexroth.
